It is now available in all bookstores L’invisibile linea rossa [The invisible red line], an initiative launched and promoted by the Fondazione Targetti in collaboration with Quodlibet publishing house.
The volume is a collection of unpublished essays of some of the biggest interpreters of contemporary architecture, plus an appendix by Antonio Negri on Rem Koolhaas. From Yona Friedman to Thom Mayne, from Peter Eisenman to Vito Acconci, Bernard Tschumi, Elias Zenghelis, Greg Lynn, Diller-Scofidio.... They are all ‘cultivators of ideas’ linked to each other by the participation in one of the meeting the Osservatorio sull’Architettura [Observatory on Architecture] of Fondazione Targetti has been organizing since 2004 as occasions for discussing about the intricacies of the architecture’s universe and this book is the result of.
The essays here collected as well as the related critical contributions have different languages and different inspirations but they all seem to be united by a subtle red line, the search for the answer to a subtended question: what it means to be an architect, nowadays?
In his introduction, the book’s curator Pino Brugellis writes that to make architecture implies the awareness of managing complex processes that not only portray the society, but ‘push’ it further on, toward an indefinite ‘elsewhere’. The architectural project, in other terms, is not only the representation of a possible reality, but the main tool to concretize the transformation needs of the society. This is exactly the essence of L’invisibile linea rossa.
