The Centre de Design located near Paris is a remarkable technological area and tool. Crowning a huge supporting wall, overlooking a national highway, the 220 meter long building itself resembles a ship set against a terraced landscape. The vehicle exhibition hall, situated on the roof is the building’s nerve centre where the cars of the future are presented and approved. Here the artificial lighting plays a key role: the vehicles can be viewed under unchanging conditions no matter what the natural lighting. In accordance with the plans, the mean illumination of 2500 lux and the quality of the light itself are fully up to the visual task. The colour of the light is perfectly balanced and the lighting is very evenly distributed thanks to the vaulting. Beyond its photometric performance, the luminous setting in the room arouses strong and unusual feelings among the observers.
