At memorial occasion of launching non-vintage pink champagne for the very first time in the world, this traditional house chose Japan. The celebration party was taken place in a spring evening in a national museum in Tokyo. Its garden and national treasure architectures composed a perfect ground to create a dream-like reception with mixture of European and Japanese atmosphere, under cherry blossom and fresh green leaves on tree brunches. The site was entirely lit in different nuances of pink. Cheerful and fancy lighting welcomes guests at museum entrance and lead them to the party place. This promenade was called “from grapes to pink champagne” thanks to gradually changing colour of light from dark purple to soft pink. Floodlit in pale pink, the French style architecture Hyokeikan, located in the middle of the promenade, represented Mrs. Cliquot, the founder of the House. Its dome ceilings was seen from all the site as if she looked down her customers and products warmly. When arriving at end of promenade, one arrives at a open plaza with peaceful water pools, which was contoured by 1200 pieces of pink LED lamps. Their slightly blinking tiny lights were reflected on water surface and looked like pink bubble floating on champagne glass. Together with brilliant pink lights cast on fountain jet in the middle of pool, this plaza was transformed into a huge pond of pink label. The Gallery of Horyuji Treasures, where the main reception was held, was also washed by pink light. Its modern square-shaped architecture was metamorphosed to a huge gift box wrapped in pink. Besides, orange – thematic colour of Veuve Cliquot – and pink spot lights shoot on short long wall along the pond, so that, when people walked in front of it, colour-shadow effect animate static environment interactively. Entire garden was softly floodlit sometimes in pink sometimes in natural colour to put maximum value to the tree’s fresh green. Japanese’ favourite flowers cherry blossoms were washed up by special high-colour-temperature lights to give accent in the midst of spring landscape. This project is a collaboration between I.C.O.N. and Motoko Ishii Lighting Design.
